Maryland added over 38,000 total jobs in 2024, new data shows

BALTIMORE, MD (January 28, 2024) – Maryland added 38,400 jobs in 2024 (27,300 in the private sector) and employment grew at a 1.4 percent growth rate, according to preliminary end-of-year employment estimates released today by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). This data, based on surveys of employers, also notes that Maryland’s total employment grew by 200 jobs in December. 

In December, Maryland’s labor force participation rate remained constant at 65.6 percent, well above the national average of 62.5 percent. Maryland’s unemployment rate remained unchanged at 3.1 percent as well last month. Maryland’s unemployment rate remains one of the lowest in the nation and well below the national rate of 4.1 percent.
