Prince George's County Economic Development Corporation (PGCEDC) has released a comprehensive analysis detailing the county's exceptional economic recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic. Conducted by Policy Navigators, LLC, the report highlights Prince George's County as one of Maryland's top-performing jurisdictions for job growth, demonstrating resilience and leadership during a challenging economic period.
The analysis compared job creation numbers in Prince George's County to eight other jurisdictions in Maryland and the state as a whole. It examined data spanning the pre-pandemic years, the initial economic impacts of COVID-19, and the subsequent recovery period.

State Program Supports Thousands of Small Business Jobs
Maryland’s Small, Minority and Women-Owned Business Account (SMWOBA) helped leverage more than $16 million in private sector capital during the last fiscal year.
The figure comes from the Maryland Department of Commerce’s latest annual program report , detailing how the state program benefitted small businesses throughout the state.
More than 170 business entities were supported by the SMWOBA program in fiscal year 2024, receiving a total of $21.3 million in financial assistance. The program also helped small businesses create 732 new jobs and retain 1,866 jobs across Maryland.

Washington Informer County Welcomes New Businesses Including BBQ
Several new businesses have opened across Prince George’s County, with more soon to come. The grand opening of Prince George’s first Roaming Rooster will be held at Glenarden’s Woodmore Towne Center on Dec. 5 at noon, where the first 100 customers will receive a free chicken sandwich.

Governor Moore Announces Maryland Soft Landing Exchange Business Incubator and Accelerator Program Now Open

The program, administered by the Maryland Department of Commerce, is designed to support companies who are ready to expand their existing export capabilities, and serves as an important enhancement to existing state export assistance.

Gov. Wes Moore Puts $1.8M Toward Making MD ‘Cyber Capital’ of US
COLUMBIA – Gov. Wes Moore this week announced a $1.8 million award to all 16 community colleges in the state to boost cybersecurity training and career opportunities.
The Maryland Association of Community Colleges and BCR Cyber, a private company that provides cybersecurity training programs and job placement services.
In his remarks at Thursday morning’s announcement, he said he hopes that Maryland will become the hotbed for aspiring cybersecurity professionals.

Maryland has been named the number one state for minority-owned businesses, according to a recent analysis by Lending Tree. The state earned top 10 rankings in three of five of the survey’s metrics, including the percentage of minority-owned businesses in the state; the ratio of pay relative to all businesses; and the longevity of business operations.
