For seven years, the innovation ecosystem of Prince George’s County has collectively celebrated Global Entrepreneurship Week (Nov 18-24), hosting various events from Largo to Bowie and College Park to shine a light on resources and dynamic entrepreneurs in our midst. The week started with a vibrant international marketplace and pop-up shop at Bowie State University in celebration of Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW). The Bowie State University Entrepreneurship Innovation Center, International Office, and International Student Association also coordinated International Education Week.
Mid-week, the University of Maryland hosted a Terp Marketplace to highlight innovations by undergraduate and graduate student entrepreneurs, including physical and digital products and everything in between. Students could also pitch an idea, validate their market, earn some revenue, and network with experts and innovators. The University of Maryland is ranked one of the top five schools for entrepreneurship in the U.S.
PGCEDC’s Innovation Station Business Incubator hosted a resource fair, tech expo, and open house with presentations by the Maryland Industrial Partnership Program, the Maryland Momentum Fund, and an IP expert discussing ways to create valuable business assets. FSC First announced the launch of a new tech company grant opportunity. The Maryland Business Opportunity Center, Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses, Prince George’s Federal Credit Union and UMD Center for Global Business, MidAtlantic I-CORP, and Maryland Energy Innovation Accelerator shared resources with local business owners. PerVista, Argotec, Waya, Djelfa Solutions, Ayers Naturals, TransGlobal Business Systems, HighT-Tech, Terra Fusion, OmniSpeech, Wearable Dose, and others displayed their technology and product innovations. At the same time, investors and community members learned more.
Closing the week out, Innovate Bowie, the Bowie Business Innovation Center, the City of Bowie, and Inccuvate will host an AI-focused program aimed at helping companies scale. Local culinary entrepreneurs will provide samples of delicious treats.
Innovation and Entrepreneurship are alive and well in Prince George’s County, not just this week but all year.
