Job Fair Connects More Than 70 County Residents With Employment Opportunities

his morning, more than 100 bilingual job seekers came out to the Prince George's County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) to participate in its first 'Bilingual Latino Job Fair and none were disappointed. Residents looking for access to well-paying job opportunities met with more than 30 employer partners, all of whom had immediate needs for positions to be filled. Of the 100 job seekers in attendance, more than 70% left with multiple job offers. EDC President and CEO Jim Coleman and Workforce Development Director Walter Simmons were joined by County Council Member Deni Taveras (Dist. 2), and Daisy Rickert, County Executive Rushern L. Baker's Latino Affairs Liaison who came out to encourage and support the Job Fair attendees.

Yesterday, over 150 Prince George's County residents met with County resource providers to gain access to free occupational skills training and job search assistance at the 'Workforce & Training Round-Up'. Organized by the Prince George's County Economic Development Corporation's (EDC) Workforce Services Division in partnership the Prince George's County Workforce Development Board, the event served to connect County job seekers with the resources they need to be successful in their job searches. EDC President and CEO, Jim Coleman, was extremely pleased with the outcome of the event.

his afternoon, Prince George's County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) President and CEO Jim Coleman joined officials from the Prince George's County Public Schools and the Prince George's County Youth CareerConnect Program (YCC) in celebrating the second YCC graduating class and honoring the memory of the former principal of Parkdale High School, Ms. Tanya L. Washington. Collectively, the 85 seniors from Fairmont Heights and Bladensburg High Schools who participated in the YCC program were awarded more than $3.4 million in scholarships to attend college, an accomplishment that Mr. Coleman highlighted as an important step toward a successful future.

EDC Joins Local Dignitaries At Groundbreaking For Town Hall Of Upper Marlboro

On Wednesday, the Town of Upper Marlboro took major steps toward the future as it broke ground to make way for a new addition to expand the Town Hall and make renovations to the existing Town Hall structure.  County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III and EDC President and CEO Jim Coleman were among notable dignitaries who joined Board of Commissioners President Jim Storey and the Town Commissioners of Upper Marlboro for the groundbreaking ceremony.  Joined at the podium by Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller, Senate Majority Leader Douglas J.J. Peters, Delegate Joseph Vallario, and Delegate Marvin Holmes, Mr. Coleman served as the guest speaker for this momentous occasion and spoke about the rich history of the Town.  He likened the future of Upper Marlboro to a Shining City Upon a Hill.
