Maryland Sees Year-to-Date Job Growth of Over 40,000, Outpacing U.S. Average

 BALTIMORE, Md., —Maryland’s employment growth continues to surpass the national average, with the state adding 7,100 jobs in November alone, including 5,400 in the private sector. Year-to-date, Maryland’s total employment has increased by an estimated 40,900 jobs, representing a 1.5% growth rate, compared to the national average of 1.3%, according to the latest preliminary data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

Gov. Moore Signs Executive Order To Bolster Maryland’s Economic Competitiveness

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Governor Wes Moore signed an executive order to strengthen Maryland’s business climate and catalyze more economic growth in the state. The governor signed the order during a visit to the Frederick Hotel and Conference Center project site in Frederick—a public-private development project that is expected to generate $1.5 billion in new private sector spending over the next 25 years, more than 200 jobs, and more than $4 million in state and local tax revenue annually.

Project Opportunity Awarded PenFed Foundation Grant to Support Entrepreneurship Training for Veterans in Maryland

TYSONS, Va., Dec. 12, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- The PenFed Foundation, a national 501(c)3 founded by PenFed Credit Union, today announced it awarded a grant to Project Opportunity, a free entrepreneurship training program offered to veterans in the State of Maryland. Concentra to Open in College Park; New Distillery in Upper Marlboro; Laurel Commerce Center Sold

A developer duo has won final entitlements for a $94 million multifamily project in Capitol Heights. It’s the initial phase of a larger development, and the first of several projects hoped to kick off revitalization of Metro’s Blue Line corridor through Prince George's, a key part of the county's economic development strategy.

State Program Supports Thousands of Small Business Jobs

Maryland’s Small, Minority and Women-Owned Business Account (SMWOBA) helped leverage more than $16 million in private sector capital during the last fiscal year.

The figure comes from the Maryland Department of Commerce’s latest annual program report , detailing how the state program benefitted small businesses throughout the state.

More than 170 business entities were supported by the SMWOBA program in fiscal year 2024, receiving a total of $21.3 million in financial assistance. The program also helped small businesses create 732 new jobs and retain 1,866 jobs across Maryland.
