Prince George's County Economic Development Corporation To Host Inaugural Women's Excellence And Leadership Luncheon

Largo, MD - The Prince George's County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) is excited to announce its 1st Annual Women's Excellence & Leadership Luncheon, which will be held at the MGM National Harbor on Thursday, June 8, 2017.  Under the theme of "Yes! You Can Have It All" this highly anticipated event will feature a panel discussion and a keynote address to inspire the business women of Prince George's County and the surrounding region. This inaugural networking event will conclude with the recognition of five dynamic women for their exemplary work ethic, performance, and dedication to Prince George's County.

"Being able to provide a platform for successful business women to share with other women their secrets of success and how they have overcome obstacles that were placed before them is a responsibility the EDC is proud to take on," said Jim Coleman, President and CEO of the EDC. "The biggest inspiration in my life was my mother. I wouldn't be where I am today if it weren't for her.  This event is a fantastic opportunity to highlight the powerful women we have in the County. There is no way that Prince George's County can continue to be a regional leader in the foreseeable future without investing in the women in our County."

Regional powerhouse Muriel Garr, Senior Vice President and Regional Community Development Manager with SunTrust Bank along with Monique Anderson Walker, Prinicpal Broker with Fleur De Lis, LLC have been chosen to co-chair this dynamic event.  As dynamic women who are exemplary role models of excellence in business in their respective fields and passionate about empowering other women to aspire towards the same, Ms. Garr and Ms. Walker are excited about bringing together a regional group of ladies to inspire one another to greatness.

"It's an honor to serve as a co-chair for the Economic Development Corporation's first Women's Excellence & Leadership Luncheon," said Garr. "Much of the work I do professionally and personally focuses on ensuring that people have the information and resources they need to secure their financial well-being. This luncheon will inspire women to focus on what they can do to achieve their dreams."

"As a life-long resident of Prince George's County, I have seen how difficult it can be for women to operate in a male-dominated business environment," said Walker.  "Being able to partner with the Economic Development Corporation and the outstanding women lending their voices to uplift and empower women-owned businesses to ensure that they are as successful as any other business is an honor for me.  Through my life's work and examples, I want my daughters to know that they are important members of their community and that, yes, they can have it all."
